Approach

Radical focus on the customer at every step

My approach as a marketer grew directly from my experience in consumer media. When you're writing for a mass audience, you learn very quickly that it doesn't matter how in love you are with your own messaging and creativity. If it's not what people want to hear, you've wasted time, money, and opportunity.

Voice of the customer

I analyze sales calls, meet customers, interview lost prospects (there's so much to be learned from a "no"), read industry trades, and pore over product data. "Why" is the most powerful word a marketer has. I ask it a lot.

Informed iteration

A/B testing is vital, but it's only as good as what you put into it. Test bad against awful, and you get data telling you that bad is good. Customer insights and creative chops help turn good into great.
